dir. Gus Van Sant
written by: Gus Van Sant
cast: Alex Frost, Bennie Dixon, John McFarland
92/100 Amazing, self-assured direction by van Sant. It doesn't try to give answers to questions it doesn't know.

Closer
dir. Mike Nichols
Screenplay: Patrick Marber
Cast: Jude Law, Natalie Portman, Julia Roberts, Clive Owen

( Closer )
97/100 If I ever were to write a movie, this would be the film I would want it to turn out to be. I am so over-reaching, I can't even believe it. To even dare to think that I could write something of this calibre is absurd.

Dogville
dir. Lars von Trier
Screenplay: Lars von Trier
Cast: Nicole Kidman, Paul Bettany, Stellan Skarsgård

( Dogville )
97/100 A perfect cast, perhaps with the exception of James Caan - too stereotypical and adds a modern-day unwelcomed twist to an otherwise period piece (somewhat). A great and disturbing story. Very ambitious. The lack of setting is a little jarring at first, but you get used to it.

Garden State
dir. Zach Braff
Screenplay: Zach Braff
Cast: Zach Braff, Natalie Portman, Peter Sarsgaard, Ian Holm

( Garden State )
67/100 - It tries. Braff is fun and has depth, as a director and actor. Promising premise. Good look to the film. But fails in its own trappings to be "quirky" - a very overrated term used to describe this film.
